Thirty-one other rooms let Oronde Gadsden II slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at the 197th overall pick. Highway robbery.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will need Ersery to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 16 they get a sticky cover corner. More want than need.
In the 22nd pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Nice patience on Kenneth Grant, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They jumped the gun on Jayden Higgins, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tate Ratledge in Round 3, Pick 22 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A slide stopped in slot 104, with Cam Skattebo worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Smael Mondon Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Steal is underselling it; Oronde Gadsden II at the 197th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan Hancock at pick 217 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
