You could see the war room lean forward. Andru Phillips at slot 213 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Estime reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The Cowboys paired the rookies with proven help, Will Hernandez leading the way.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 27 they get a weapon on the perimeter, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Good price on Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Audric Estime at Round 3, Pick 24 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for Mason McCormick at the 90th pick when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tyrice Knight slid further than he should have, and pick No. 124 is lovely value for the linebacker. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A clean, defensible pick in the 125th overall pick with a little surplus value in Kris Abrams-Draine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Darius Robinson in pick 128. A minor itch, scratched.
Edefuan Ulofoshio slipping to slot 173 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
