Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jihaad Campbell got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at No. 161. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy bit of business in the 26th overall pick, where Will Johnson graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Mike Green all the way to Round 2, Pick 26, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Donovan Ezeiruaku at the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at slot 161 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A straight-up fair deal on Ricky White III at the 202nd pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Harold Perkins Jr. in No. 250 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
