You build a draft on nights like this. Kalel Mullings had no business being available in the 237th pick, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They will need Prieskorn to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The phones were where this weekend was really won. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Jayden Higgins at the 54th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jake Majors in the 87th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Demetrius Knight Jr. in pick No. 122 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Kevin Winston Jr. at No. 158 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Circle this one: Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 196 is a fall that decides a draft. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A running back of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 21 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Caden Prieskorn in slot 250 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
