The rest of the league had time to spare on Alan Herron; the Packers did not wait, grabbing him 51 spots ahead at the Round 6 slot. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
They banked enough surplus on Lew to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
Hit on Mike Washington Jr. and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
Mike Washington Jr. at pick No. 52 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ted Hurst at the 84th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board fumbled Connor Lew all the way to the 100th pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kaleb Proctor at slot 120 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Charles Demmings slid further than he should have, and pick 160 is lovely value for the cornerback. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A big swing on Alan Herron at No. 201, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A conviction pick on Nolan Rucci at No. 236 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Jalon Daniels at Round 7, Pick 39, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
