When the story of this class is written, it opens with Tanor Bortolini at the 168th overall pick, a reach of 49 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Gray pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, running back and other spots. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. On value alone, Beebe makes the weekend a net positive.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Tyler Nubin in Round 2, Pick 9 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 62 with a little surplus value in Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Cooper Beebe at pick No. 88 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Khyree Jackson at No. 91 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, running back and other spots to take Cedric Gray, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Mohamed Kamara in pick 131 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid a round early for Fabien Lovett in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Tanor Bortolini at No. 168, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Elijah Jones is a better player than Round 6, Pick 29 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joshua Cephus in slot 216, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kenny Logan Jr.. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
