Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Bub Means, the No. 227 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 255.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Turner III reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a double-digit-sack hope, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Javon Bullard in the 58th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They did well to land Brandon Dorlus in pick No. 88, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Roger Rosengarten at slot 91 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Brennan Jackson at No. 126 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dylan Laube in the 169th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Dixon. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Tylan Grable at par in pick 219, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had cheaper options than Charles Turner III at the 245th pick, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Bub Means here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
