They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Sedrick Van Pran, 34 picks early at slot 57.
The Hartman steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
A reach for Calen Bullock in pick No. 41; a little patience would have been rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They talked themselves into Sedrick Van Pran at slot 57, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bucky Irving. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy little value on Isaiah Adams in pick 125, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and Cedric Gray was the payoff at the 135th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board fumbled Sam Hartman all the way to pick No. 203, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Omar Speights in slot 217 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A big swing on Erick All at No. 219, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ja'Had Carter in the Round 7 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
