If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. Jaylen Wright at No. 126 is 35 spots clear of where he belonged. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
If Quinyon Mitchell and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.25
· Pick 25
· Quinyon Mitchell
· CB
· rank 31
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9
· Pick 41
· Kamren Kinchens
· S
· rank 34
Kamren Kinchens at Round 2, Pick 9 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R2.17
· Pick 49
· Kingsley Suamataia
· OT
· rank 53
Kingsley Suamataia in slot 49 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.25
· Pick 57
· Edgerrin Cooper
· LB
· rank 57
Edgerrin Cooper in No. 57 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.25
· Pick 88
· Cooper Beebe
· OG
· rank 76
Cooper Beebe slid further than he should have, and pick No. 88 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.28
· Pick 91
· Darius Robinson
· DL-EDGE
· rank 120
Value said wait; Darius Robinson in the 91st overall pick says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.16
· Pick 116
· Kris Abrams-Draine
· CB
· rank 121
No drama and no debate, Kris Abrams-Draine went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 16. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.26
· Pick 126
· Jaylen Wright
· RB
· rank 161
Jaylen Wright at No. 126 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.32
· Pick 168
· Edefuan Ulofoshio
· LB
· rank 159
Edefuan Ulofoshio in the Round 5 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R6.28
· Pick 203
· Isaiah Davis
· RB
· rank 188
A quiet steal in pick 203: Isaiah Davis for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.41
· Pick 216
· Jalen Green
· S
· rank 218
No edge and no loss on Jalen Green in slot 216; it is a wash and a sensible one. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.15
· Pick 235
· Dwight McGlothern
· CB
· rank 269
They reached into another round for Dwight McGlothern, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.23
· Pick 243
· Walter Rouse
· OT
· rank 270
A real head-scratcher, Walter Rouse in pick No. 243 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.31
· Pick 251
· Demani Richardson
· S
· rank 254
They paid sticker price for Demani Richardson in the 251st pick, and that is fine. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
