Green Bay Packers

The Packers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

Future B-

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Devin Leary at the 238th pick, a reach of 69 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Quantity was the play, for better or worse.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 39
In pick 32 they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 46
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in No. 41, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 56
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in pick No. 58. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · DeWayne Carter · DT · rank 103
A premium they did not need to pay, DeWayne Carter a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · MarShawn Lloyd · RB · rank 99
A reach on MarShawn Lloyd in slot 91; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 107
Zak Zinter in the 95th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 117
Elijah Jones slid further than he should have, and pick 126 is lovely value for the cornerback. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 161
They read the board right and Dwight McGlothern was the payoff at the 169th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Jordan Magee · LB · rank 222
Jordan Magee in the 202nd overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.18 · Pick 238 · Devin Leary · QB · rank 307
Devin Leary at Round 7, Pick 18 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Tyrice Knight · LB · rank 256
Tyrice Knight at No. 245 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R7.32 · Pick 252 · J.J. Weaver · LB-EDGE · rank 317
They reached into another round for J.J. Weaver, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Kimani Vidal · RB · rank 252
Kimani Vidal in the Round 7 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
