They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Walter Rouse, 39 picks early at No. 219.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Packers indulged a want in Wilson while a need in wide receiver, tight end and other spots stayed open.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Magee.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a rangy last line of defense at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
A reasonable price with a little left over, T.J. Tampa in pick No. 42. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in pick 57; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Payton Wilson in the 66th pick leaves wide receiver, tight end and other spots for later.
Christian Haynes slipping to slot 85 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Cooper Beebe at Round 3, Pick 25 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Josh Newton at pick No. 89 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A want over a need in the 91st overall pick: Tykee Smith adds a safety while wide receiver, tight end and other spots keeps waiting.
A quiet steal in pick 125: Max Melton for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had Javon Foster higher than the 137th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Braelon Allen in slot 168 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Christian Jones went about where he belonged in the Round 6 slot. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Braiden McGregor. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Magee at slot 217. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A real head-scratcher, Walter Rouse in the 219th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taulia Tagovailoa at pick No. 239 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A conviction pick on Dwight McGlothern at Round 7, Pick 26 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
