Boards are made to be trusted, and the Packers shredded theirs for Frank Gore Jr.. He came off 73 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Colson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. A real need, handled.
No edge and no loss on Troy Fautanu in the 41st overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Keon Coleman at slot 43 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Sedrick Van Pran at Round 3, Pick 9 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They did well to land D.J. James in pick No. 82, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kiran Amegadjie in the 109th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Junior Colson at No. 135 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Frank Gore Jr. at slot 187 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Miles Frazier at pick No. 217, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cornelius Johnson in the 219th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nelson Ceaser at the Round 7 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
