The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named edge rusher, a need the Chargers walked right past.
The Powers-Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Davis.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brock Bowers. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quinyon Mitchell at the 37th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nothing to complain about; Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A tidy little value on Dominick Puni in No. 105, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Dylan Laube in Round 5, Pick 6 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No drama and no debate, Bru McCoy went about where he belonged in slot 183. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Isaiah Davis, who had no business lasting to pick 226. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
