They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
If McCaffrey pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Brian Thomas Jr. in No. 34 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Patrick Paul in pick 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Luke McCaffrey in Round 4, Pick 3 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
