Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Commanders spent slot 181 on Silas Bolden, a name most had 139 spots down the list.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

In the 1st pick they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Kalen King went about where he belonged in pick No. 40. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in slot 67; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
By-the-book stuff, Blake Fisher at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Drake Nugent this early at No. 102. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Theo Johnson in pick 141 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
