The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Reaching for Rosengarten left real value on the table behind him. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 7 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 4, with Brian Thomas Jr. worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Ja'Tavion Sanders went about where he belonged in the 38th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Robinson. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nothing to complain about; Kingsley Suamataia went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good price on Mike Sainristil in pick 78, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Roger Rosengarten in slot 100 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brenden Rice at the 106th pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in pick No. 139, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Kitan Oladapo in slot 152 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Keaton Bills at the 222nd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
