Nobody had Pat Coogan this high, and it is not close. The Chiefs reached 24 spots to get him at No. 176.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Styles. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 29 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Sonny Styles in Round 2, Pick 8 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A wild overpay on Treydan Stukes in the 74th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Bryce Lance at No. 109 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Beau Stephens at pick 148 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach on Kaleb Elarms-Orr in the 169th pick; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pat Coogan at No. 176 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They went early on Zavion Thomas in slot 210, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
