The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: Elijah Sarratt, the No. 77 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 4 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Reaching for Elarms-Orr left real value on the table behind him. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Mansoor Delane at the 9th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They talked themselves into Gennings Dunker at the Round 1 slot, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They barely believed it either: Kenyon Sadiq still on the board at slot 40. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fair-plus on Michael Taaffe, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Taking Elijah Sarratt in Round 4, Pick 9 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kaleb Elarms-Orr at the 148th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked Matt Gulbin enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 169. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Josh Cameron a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Zavion Thomas at the Round 6 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
