Call it larceny. Smael Mondon Jr. sat on the board until the Round 6 slot, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice.
Reaching for Prather left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 20 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Jalon Walker at slot 44 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tyler Warren in pick No. 76 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Andrew Mukuba graded well above the range. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
You do not let a linebacker like Barrett Carter reach the 120th overall pick and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jake Majors in No. 148 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Cam Skattebo at the 168th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They jumped the gun on Nazir Stackhouse, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Samuel Brown in slot 195 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Kaden Prather in Round 6, Pick 34 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Shilo Sanders in pick No. 248 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
