The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 5, Pick 11 on Tyler Batty a full 149 spots early. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
The Styles pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, with Tyler Warren leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Warren in the 44th pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Isaiah Bond slipping to pick 49 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Omarion Hampton in Round 2, Pick 24, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tyler Booker at slot 57 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in the 76th overall pick with a little surplus value in Andrew Mukuba. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Barrett Carter in No. 122 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let a running back like Cam Skattebo reach pick No. 145 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tyler Batty. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They robbed the room for Sonny Styles here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Lander Barton at the 170th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dorian Strong at slot 173 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
