The Giants kept it disciplined and banked a B.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Giants spent slot 246 on Jesus Gibbs, a name the board had a full 118 spots lower. The bottom line is a respectable B.

They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The veteran additions, Najee Harris chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.7 · Pick 39 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 41
A straight-up fair deal on Chris Braswell at pick 39, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 74
A wild overpay on Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 65
They took Kiran Amegadjie at par in the 60th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 67
Patrick Paul in pick No. 65 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 86
A reach for Blake Corum in the 70th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · James Williams · S · rank 120
They paid a round early for James Williams in No. 108, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 199
A real head-scratcher, Joe Milton III in pick 129 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 134
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nehemiah Pritchett in the 140th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.29 · Pick 165 · Jaheim Bell · TE · rank 163
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaheim Bell. The roster fit checks out.
R6.10 · Pick 185 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 217
Tanor Bortolini at No. 185 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Jesus Gibbs · DL-EDGE · rank 364
Jesus Gibbs at slot 246 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
