The trade table was where it all came apart. The Giants shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
They have staked the next five years on Drake Maye, which is the only story that really matters here. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
The McMillan pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Job largely done: safety settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
In the 30th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Roman Wilson. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Junior Colson in slot 47 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nice patience on Javon Bullard, who had no business lasting to No. 70. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kamren Kinchens in pick 93 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A clean, defensible pick in the 108th pick with a little surplus value in MarShawn Lloyd. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Jalen McMillan in pick No. 140 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Kamal Hadden here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
