Start where it matters. The Giants took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Reaching for Haynes left real value on the table behind him. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Baker at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Nubin went about where he belonged in slot 39. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Christian Haynes at the 47th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Ricky Pearsall, who had no business lasting to the 70th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Javon Baker slipping to Round 4, Pick 8 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ainias Smith in No. 140. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Jefferson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
