If confidence were a draft strategy, the Giants would have aced it. Darius Robinson at Round 5, Pick 7 is 55 spots clear of where he belonged.
They banked enough surplus on Neal to cover a lot of smaller sins. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an enforcer at safety, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kris Jenkins at Round 2, Pick 6 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jonathon Brooks in slot 47 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
They liked Marist Liufau enough to skip the value, taking him in the 70th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They reached into another round for Jaden Hicks, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into Darius Robinson at pick No. 143, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Devin Neal still on the board at pick 184. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
