The board owed the Giants one, and it paid up: Jacob Cowing, the No. 182 name on the board, sitting there at No. 236 like a gift left on the doorstep. Just about everything broke right, and the A follows.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Morgan pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 15 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jordan Morgan at slot 40 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Calen Bullock in pick No. 47, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A clean, defensible pick in the 70th pick with a little surplus value in Ladd McConkey. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Fisher at the 106th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in the Round 5 slot: Shemar Turner for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Layden Robinson went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 11. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Jacob Cowing at No. 236 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
