You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Giants did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Put together, it is a D.
The whole projection now runs through Drake Maye; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The Rice pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The McGlothern value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at slot 51, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brenden Rice. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Cole Bishop at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in the 141st overall pick with a little surplus value in Roger Rosengarten. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Dwight McGlothern in Round 6, Pick 8, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
