For all the boxes ticked, the Giants skipped the loudest one: interior defensive lineman is exactly as bare as it was.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Muhammad III. If Fautanu pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 5 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value.
They took Nate Wiggins at par in Round 2, Pick 5, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
J.J. McCarthy is a better player than the 54th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Brian Thomas Jr. at No. 69 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Troy Fautanu in the 105th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Guyton at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Moose Muhammad III at slot 183 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
