Start where it matters. The Giants took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
If McClellan pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Braswell value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
No edge and no loss on Troy Fautanu in Round 2, Pick 5; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Brian Thomas Jr. in the 47th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Chris Braswell in pick 69 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Devontez Walker in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and James Williams was the payoff at No. 142. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jase McClellan at the 183rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
