The tape said wait; the Giants did not. Richard Jibunor went at the 226th overall pick, a good 73 picks before the board was ready.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
They did well to land T'Vondre Sweat in the 37th pick, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on Quinyon Mitchell in No. 68, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Jackson Powers-Johnson at par in pick 69, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Johnny Wilson in pick No. 71 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They went early on Audric Estime in Round 4, Pick 5, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Theo Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy little value on Darius Robinson in Round 6, Pick 8, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Nathaniel Watson at pick 225, and the board did not agree. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A real head-scratcher, Richard Jibunor in slot 226 is miles ahead of his ranking. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
