When the story of this class is written, it opens with Braelon Allen at No. 107, a reach of 48 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reach on Patrick Paul in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for T'Vondre Sweat in No. 47; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Spencer Rattler at pick No. 70 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Braelon Allen at Round 4, Pick 7 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cam Hart at the 143rd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Josh Proctor at pick No. 185 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
