Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jaylin Simpson got past him. The Giants do not have to explain a thing at slot 185. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 37 with a little surplus value in Adonai Mitchell. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at pick 39, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Guyton in pick No. 47, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Denzel Burke here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
Zak Zinter in the 105th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaheim Bell at Round 5, Pick 6 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had Joe Milton III higher than the Round 6 slot, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylin Simpson at pick No. 185 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
