Simpson should have been long gone. The Giants pounced, and earned a B.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jaylin Simpson got past him. The Giants do not have to explain a thing at slot 185. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Laiatu Latu · DL-EDGE · rank 7
In the 7th pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 31
A clean, defensible pick in No. 37 with a little surplus value in Adonai Mitchell. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 37
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at pick 39, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 48
They paid sticker price for Tyler Guyton in pick No. 47, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Denzel Burke · CB · rank 55
They robbed the room for Denzel Burke here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 104
Zak Zinter in the 105th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.14 · Pick 114 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 109
Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.6 · Pick 142 · Jaheim Bell · TE · rank 142
Jaheim Bell at Round 5, Pick 6 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 171
The board had Joe Milton III higher than the Round 6 slot, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.10 · Pick 185 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 158
Steal is underselling it; Jaylin Simpson at pick No. 185 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
