The Giants treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 116 on Jaylen Harrell a full 70 spots early. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
However the rest shakes out, Sanders at that price is a win they earned. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 9 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 17th pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Troy Fautanu went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
J.J. McCarthy at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
The board had cheaper options than Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 47, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Blake Corum at pick 70 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in No. 78 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A quiet steal in pick 81: Jeremiah Trotter Jr. for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Value said wait; Andrew Coker in No. 107 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let a wide receiver like Malachi Corley reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jaylen Harrell in Round 4, Pick 16 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Javion Cohen at par in the 143rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Cam Hart at the 145th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cole Bishop at slot 155 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They jumped the gun on Gabe Hall, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
