New York Giants

The Giants answered their biggest question with Daniels. Grade: D-.

The phones were a trap the Giants kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Put together, it is a D-.

So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, safety very much included.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 6
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.18 · Pick 18 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 18
In pick 18 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
R1.25 · Pick 25 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 28
In the 25th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 47
Cooper Beebe at No. 47 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 69
They paid sticker price for Patrick Paul in the 70th pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Max Melton · CB · rank 77
Max Melton in Round 3, Pick 22 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Mekhi Wingo · DT · rank 107
A straight-up fair deal on Mekhi Wingo at slot 106, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.15 · Pick 115 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 108
Will Shipley at pick No. 115 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. The roster fit checks out.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 122
Theo Johnson at pick No. 120 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · James Williams · LB · rank 124
James Williams in Round 4, Pick 25 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 145
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R5.10 · Pick 146 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
Luke McCaffrey in slot 146 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Khristian Boyd · DL-EDGE · rank 178
A tidy little value on Khristian Boyd in the 183rd pick, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
