The Giants put a flag in the ground for Kaleb Proctor, 24 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On value alone, Masses makes the weekend a net positive.
They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a lead back with juice, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Chris Brazzell II at the 37th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Bryce Lance in pick 93, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They did well to land De'Zhaun Stribling in No. 105, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kaleb Proctor in slot 112 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid up for Beau Stephens at the 145th pick when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Hezekiah Masses slipping to the 152nd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 186 with a little surplus value in Kaleb Elarms-Orr. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good price on Dae'Quan Wright in pick No. 192, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Fair-plus on DJ Campbell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
