The Michael Barrett selection is the head-turner. The Giants reached 37 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake. The Giants paired the rookies with proven help, Foyesade Oluokun leading the way.
Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 16 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick 17 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 47th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor itch, scratched.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Khyree Jackson this early at Round 3, Pick 6. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Jordan Travis in No. 130, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Michael Barrett at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
The board had cheaper options than Jaylen Harrell at pick No. 185, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
