The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Giants reached some 33 spots for Frank Gore Jr., and value like that does not grow back.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Jakobi Meyers gives the group a proven body among the projects. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
Rome Odunze in No. 11 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
In pick 27 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cooper DeJean in the 69th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Tory Horton at slot 111 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on Jordan Travis in the 142nd overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Andrew Raym in pick No. 183; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Frank Gore Jr. at Round 7, Pick 1, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
