The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Giants spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They are betting Zinter proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They banked enough surplus on Fisher to cover a lot of smaller sins.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
A conviction pick on Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Zak Zinter well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid up for Elijah Jones at pick No. 107 when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
Blake Fisher in the 141st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylen Harrell in slot 183, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
