Start where it matters. The Giants took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
If Walker pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Smith.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
A big swing on Blake Corum at the Round 2 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 54 with a little surplus value in Cooper Beebe. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kamren Kinchens at Round 3, Pick 5 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Devontez Walker in pick No. 105 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at the 142nd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in the 183rd overall pick, where Ainias Smith graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
