This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Harold Perkins Jr., the No. 126 name on the board, stolen at No. 218.
They have staked the next five years on Jalen Milroe, which is the only story that really matters here. Milroe has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Omarion Hampton slipping to Round 2, Pick 3 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tight end of that caliber at slot 66 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let a safety like Malachi Moore reach pick No. 102 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Barrett Carter here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They will replay Jake Majors at the 153rd pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Harold Perkins Jr. at pick 218 is a fall that decides a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Ollie Gordon II in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cody Lindenberg in No. 256 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
