When the story of this class is written, it opens with Christian Haynes at the 34th overall pick, a reach of 31 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They talked themselves into Christian Haynes at pick 34, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, T.J. Tampa at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Mike Sainristil at Round 3, Pick 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had cheaper options than Blake Corum at slot 70, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Zak Zinter at the 107th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Jaheim Bell in slot 141 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Isaiah Williams at pick No. 183 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
