Nobody else had Keaton Bills anywhere near slot 185. The Giants did, by 48 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Williams pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, J.J. McCarthy at the 39th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They jumped the gun on Xavier Worthy, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A conviction pick on Blake Corum at slot 70 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nothing to complain about; Zak Zinter went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
James Williams in pick No. 140 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Keaton Bills in the 185th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
