The Giants lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
They will need Washington to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Guyton falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
A quiet steal in pick 36: Keon Coleman for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Amarius Mims in the 39th overall pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 47, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 70 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in pick No. 100; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They liked Malik Washington enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 7. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid up for Braelon Allen at the Round 5 slot when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Circle this one: Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 185th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
