They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Patrick Payton, 66 picks early at Round 6, Pick 11. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Love at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerfielder for the defense. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 10 they get a three-down runner at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Peter Woods at No. 37 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Lee Hunter at pick 57 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Sam Hecht in the 89th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good price on Ted Hurst in the 92nd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A big swing on J.C. Davis at the 112th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Hezekiah Masses at Round 5, Pick 5 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value said wait; George Gumbs Jr. in pick 152 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Domani Jackson at No. 177 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Jimmy Rolder at pick No. 186 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached into another round for Patrick Payton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
Dae'Quan Wright at the 193rd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
