You build a draft on nights like this. Xavier Worthy had no business being available in Round 3, Pick 4, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Kamren Curl gives the group a proven body among the projects. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
In the end it comes back to Cooper DeJean, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
They will replay Cooper DeJean at Round 2, Pick 2 for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Bo Nix at No. 36 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 40 with a little surplus value in Chop Robinson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Kiran Amegadjie at par in the 47th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 68 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy little value on Mason McCormick in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Tyrice Knight in the 136th overall pick, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
They let Kitan Oladapo come to them and pounced at slot 182. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They read the board right and Austin Stogner was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
