The war room fell hard for Matthew Jones, and it showed at the 185th overall pick: 48 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Abrams-Draine. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Troy Fautanu at pick No. 39 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 15 with a little surplus value in J.J. McCarthy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Edgerrin Cooper slipping to the 70th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kris Abrams-Draine at the 143rd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Matthew Jones at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
