Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
That Harris pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Reaching for Bell left real value on the table behind him.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 10 they get a problem off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Edgerrin Cooper went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They paid a round early for Patrick Paul in the 39th pick, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach for Jermaine Burton in slot 42; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jackson Powers-Johnson this early at the Round 3 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaheim Bell. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Kiran Amegadjie in the 107th pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Donovan Edwards at slot 144 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value with a capital V on Kamal Hadden in Round 6, Pick 10, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steve Linton in pick No. 188 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Tre Harris was still sitting there in the 228th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
