Washington Commanders

Daniels is the plan now, and the Commanders grade out a B+.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop.

The cost of the Leary reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They banked enough surplus on Wilson to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 8
In the 7th pick they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 34
Chop Robinson at pick 30 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 36 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 47
Patrick Paul in Round 2, Pick 8 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 59
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick No. 66. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.1 · Pick 101 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 79
The board fumbled Roman Wilson all the way to No. 101, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 121
This one needs a full-page explanation: Darius Robinson in the Round 4 slot, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Ray Davis · RB · rank 110
No drama and no debate, Ray Davis went about where he belonged in the 108th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Malik Washington · WR · rank 120
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Malik Washington at the 131st overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.2 · Pick 138 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 126
Justin Eboigbe slid further than he should have, and pick No. 138 is lovely value for the edge rusher. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Devin Leary · QB · rank 300
Devin Leary at pick 257 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
