The Cowboys torched the value chart for Braelon Allen, taking him 50 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Pearl falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Braelon Allen at No. 56 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value said wait; McKinnley Jackson in Round 3, Pick 24 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaylan Ford well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Tyler Owens in the 216th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Julian Pearl in slot 233, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Jordan Whittington in pick No. 244, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
