The Dolphins spent real capital to be 47 picks early on Joe Milton III, and the board is going to hold them to it. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Hadden at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a disruptive interior force, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. The roster fit checks out.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zak Zinter this early at pick No. 59. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Joe Milton III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.

A wild overpay on Xavier Thomas in the 239th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
