Somebody in No. 148 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while TreVeyon Henderson, the No. 60 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The cost of the Slackman reach is exactly the players who went right after him. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 19 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
You do not let a wide receiver like Tre Harris reach the 44th pick and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Jihaad Campbell here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Gunnar Helm come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jake Majors at Round 4, Pick 17 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
TreVeyon Henderson in No. 148 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Simeon Barrow Jr. at the 168th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 170 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Sonny Styles still on the board at Round 5, Pick 36. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They did well to land Ricky White III in pick No. 186, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They read the board right and DJ Campbell was the payoff at No. 209. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; Joey Slackman in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
A reach for Aydan White in slot 248; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
